In the wake of leading USA Basketball to perfect 7-0 records and gold medals at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championships, USA head coaches Sue Phillips (Archbishop Mitty H.S./San Jose Cagers AAU, Calif.) and Don Showalter (Iowa City H.S., Iowa) were named as the 2014 USA Basketball Co-Developmental Coaches of the Year.

After helping USA Basketball win the 2014 Nike Hoop Summit and capture the gold medal at the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship Justise Winslow is currently playing his freshman season at Duke University (where he is teaming up with former USA Basketball teammates Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor). Even for an elite player such as Winslow, success is never guaranteed. Winslow first tried out at USA Basketball for the U16 team a few years ago, but he didn't make that squad. The experience, he says, made him work even harder. Here's what he had to say about his basketball journey and what he's learned.

Legendary youth basketball coach Don Showalter believes that too much emphasis might be placed on actually playing the games. Skill development, he says, is critical for young players to work on before they start getting into game action.
