Four USA Nike Hoop Summit Team Members State Champs in 2010, Two More Still Playing

In the past few weeks, four 2010 USA Nike Hoop Summit Team members have captured state titles as their high school careers came to close. In fact, Harrison Barnes (Ames H.S. / Ames, Iowa), Will Barton (Brewster Academy / Baltimore, Md.) and Terrence Jones (Jefferson H.S. / Portland, Ore.) all repeated as consecutive state champions. Additionally, two USA team members, Tobias Harris (Half Hollow Hills West H.S. / Brookville, N.Y.) and Jared Sullinger (Northland H.S. / Columbus, Ohio), still have games to play in their hunt for a 2010 state title.

Harrison Barnes
Harrison BarnesHarrison Barnes scored 19 points, pushing his career total to 1,787 points, to help Ames capture a 47-37 win over Southeast Polk H.S. and the Iowa 4A state title on March 13. The title was Ames' second consecutive, and it capped two perfect seasons with Ames' 53rd win in a row. Barnes was named MVP of the entire state tournament and captain of the 4A All-Tournament team.

Will Barton
Will BartonAfter helping Lake Clifton H.S. in Baltimore, Md., to a 3A state title in 2008-09, Barton chose to spend his senior season at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., where he is proving that he can win at a different program. Barton tallied 26 points and nine rebounds on March 7 as Brewster topped Winchendon 72-69 to capture the 2010 New England Prep School Athletic Conference Class A title. He also helped Brewster to a prestigious title at the National Prep Championship. Leading Brewster in scoring for all three games, Barton tallied a game-high 24 points to help Brewster top Mount Hermon H.S. 79-76 in overtime in the finals on March 11. Barton was named MVP of the tournament, Brewster finished the season 34-5 record and became the first team to capture both the NEPSAC Class A title and the National Prep Championship in the same year.

Reggie Bullock
Reggie BullockReggie Bullock tallied a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double to help Kinston capture a 51-29 win over West Caldwell H.S. in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 2A state championship game on March 13. Bullock was named Most Outstanding Player of the final. West Caldwell's 29 points were the lowest scoring total in a boys state championship since 1949.

Tobias Harris
Tobias HarrisHarris tallied 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots to help Hills West H.S. earn a 63-60 win over Uniondale H.S. for the Long Island 2A title on March 13. With the win, Hills West advanced to the semifinals of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association 2A state championship, where it will meet East H.S. on Saturday, March, 20.

Kyrie Irving
Kyrie IrvingDuke-bound point guard Kyrie Irving finished his high school career with 30 points in St. Patrick High School's (N.J.) 82-45 win over Plainfield to capture the Union County Tournament championship on Feb. 27. St. Patrick (24-3) was banned from the state tournament by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association after holding illegal practice before the state-mandated start date.

'It's disappointing for sure, but we had a real good season, and we'll be fine,' Irving told the Montclair Times. 'It's time to look forward to what awaits us.'

Terrence Jones
Terrence JonesTerrence Jones has lead Jefferson H.S. to three conseuctive state titles in Oregon during his high school career, capped off by Sunday's 57-48 win over Mountain View H.S. in the 5A state championship. Jones, who finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals in the title game, became the sixth player in state history to score 800 points in a season with 810 in 2009-10. He finished his career with 1,793 points.

Brandon Knight
Brandon KnightBrandon Knight, who played with a sore groin, tallied 18 points as Pine Crest fell to Rickards H.S. 70-46 in the Florida Class 3A state championship game on March 4
. He was, however, named the 2010 Florida Sun Sentinel Class 3A-2A-1A Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Kendall Marshall
Kendall MarshallDespite 21 points from Kendal Marshall, including eight in the final 70 seconds, Bishop O'Connell (19-14) fell 63-61 to Gonzaga H.S. in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference semifinals on March 7.

Jared Sullinger
Jared SullingerJared Sullinger and his high-school coach and father, James 'Satch' Sullinger, were named last week as the 2010 Naismith National Boys Player and National Boys Coach of the Year, respectively, the first father and son to capture the awards in the same year. Meanwhile, the Sullinger's have lead Northland H.S. to the Ohio Region III semifinals against Colerain H.S. on March 18. The winner advances to the D1 state quarterfinals.
