Pinnock really got hot in the second half and Lloreda was just a beast. I thought the shot he made at the end of the first half made a big difference. You know, he was out in foul trouble in the first half and we were leading and they came back with him out so I think that shows what kind of team they are. I think theyre a good team.
About the prospect of advancing to the medal semifinals:
Id love to qualify, but, we just take it one game at a time. And the next game is very, very important. Weve got to regroup. And we have to continue to play hard and play together and make some shots against Argentina. I thought we got some good looks this game, we even got the ball inside, and we missed some shots. But, weve got to give Panama credit.
Im proud of our guys. I think our guys are playing hard. I think we played two very good teams. Obviously, Im disappointed in the outcome, not in our performance. I think theyre giving us everything theyve got and Im proud of their effort. But we still have to play a little bit better, weve got to execute a little bit better, weve got to play defense little bit better, but weve got to keep working on that. Its not over yet.
I thought a key part in the game was the first half when Lloreda went out with two fouls and we had a lead and we couldnt take advantage of him being out of the game. He was out of the game and they actually came and tied it and he made a big play at the end of the first half. I thought that really sparked them going into the second half. Then I thought Pinnock in the second half just got it going, we had no answer for him in the second half.
All of the teams weve played have had guys who have played in the U.S. and I think that always happens. They know our guys and know what our guys do well, but you have to give him [Pinnock] credit on how well he played offensively. He hit huge shots even at the end of the shot clock and really broke the game open in the second half.
Well, they were hitting a lot of shots. We didnt get out on the shooters that much everybody all around. It was a team effort and we need to play harder than we did.
Everybody says were a young team and were still trying to figure things out. These guys [Panama] have been playing with each other for years now and were just trying to get a cohesive bond right now to see if we can bring it together. So these next three games, were just gonna try to figure things out as soon as possible.
Overall, it was a tough one. We were up most of the time and they just came back, hit threes and made big plays down the stretch.
What did you know about Panama?
We knew that they had a really good big guy and they had really good guards and they hit big shots big threes and it was effective for them.
Theyre [Argentinas] just going to try and do the same things try to out-tough us because, I think, were young. But, were not gonna back down. Were just going to keep doing what we have to do to get better everyday and with every possession.
What does it mean to represent the U.S.?
It means a lot because I get to wear USA across my chest. I've dreamed about that since I was a little kid, so I'm just going to have to try to pull a win. No matter what happens, in the end, we just have to keep our heads up and just keep playing.'
We came out and we started strong and we were playing them tough and then they went on that little run in the second half and we just kinda traded buckets coming down the stretch. Its tough. Were starting off 0-2, but weve just got to keep growing as a team and try to improve.
Theyre a solid team. They had a few guys that played college ball in the [United] States and theyve got a couple of skilled, big guys. We let Pinnock get hot and he kind of turned the game around.
We dont really know too much [about Argentina]. We havent really seen them play. They played before us [Wednesday] night. We havent watched any film or seen any scouting reports so not much yet.
What does it mean to represent the U.S.?
It means everything. Its a great feeling. We just want to come out here and try to represent the country in the best way possible. We kind of started off with a rocky start, but were fighting. Were giving it 110 percent out there. You know, were just coming up a little short. These other teams have been practicing for a long time and weve been together for 10 days. Were still growing, still learning how to play together and hopefully we can pull out a few wins.
