Schedule Announced For 2011 Pan American Games Menís Basketball Competition

The schedule for the 2011 Pan American Games Team menís basketball competition today was announced, and the U.S. men will open play on Oct. 26 against Dominican Republic at 5:30 p.m. (times listed are Central Daylight Time, which is -1 hour from Eastern Daylight Time).

The USA will take on defending Pan American Games champion Brazil at 8 p.m. on Oct. 27, before closing out preliminary round group play against Uruguay at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 28.

The top two finishing teams from each preliminary round group advance to the medal semifinals, while the third and fourth place teams will play out for 5th-8th place. The semifinals will be played on Oct. 29, and the finals will take place on Oct. 30.

Tulsa 66ers head coach Nate Tibbetts was announced as the USAís head coach in July, and the coaching staff will be rounded out with assistant coaches Dale Osbourne and Jermaine Byrd, who both are assistant coaches with the Tulsa 66ers. †

Additionally, NBA Development League Austin Toros head coach Brad Jones and Idaho Stampede head coach Randy Livingston will serve as court coaches during the USAís Oct. 14-22 training camp at the Tulsa Convention Center.

The 12-member USA Menís Pan American Games Team will be announced before the team departs on Oct. 23for the competition in Mexico. The list of athletes participating in the USA Team training camp will be announced at a later date.
