Following a summer in which she helped lead USA Basketball to the 2014 FIBA World Championship gold medal and was named MVP of the tournament along the way, Maya Moore (Minnesota Lynx) was announced as the 2014 USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year.

Following a summer in which she helped lead USA Basketball to the 2014 FIBA World Championship gold medal and was named MVP of the tournament along the way, Maya Moore today was announced as the 2014 USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year.

The 2014 USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year will be announced on Jan. 6. Here are some of the players in consideration for the honor.

Four 2014-16 USA Basketball National Team members are currently competing in China, 11 are in the EuroLeague, three are competing in the EuroCup, one is in Australia, two began the season in South Korea and two are still in college. The remaining athletes are either staying in the United States during the WNBA off-season or have not yet reported to an overseas team. Every Thursday throughout the 2014-15 season, USA Basketball will report on the progress of the athletes competing overseas and in NCAA action.

After each led USA Basketball to gold medal and a qualifying berth into the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, Geno Auriemma and Mike Krzyzewski today were announced as the 2014 USA Basketball Co-National Coaches of the Year.

On the heels of gold-medal performances that secured the USA men and women a berth into the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, the 2014 USA Men’s World Cup and USA Women’s World Championship teams have been selected as co-recipients of the 2014 USA Basketball Team of the Year.
