USA BASKETBALL 3X3 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT: USA Basketball will host a national championship tournament for 3x3 athletes with the winning team being named the 2014 USA 3x3 World Championship Team. The 2014 USA Basketball 3x3 National Championship Tournament will be held May 9-11 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

EVENT DESCRIPTION: The second FIBA 3x3 World Championship, an event launched in 2012 and held every other year, is expected to feature 24 men's teams and 24 women's teams. In addition to the men’s and women’s 3x3 tournaments, included in the 2014 3x3 World Championship program for the weekend will be skills contests, giving athletes additional chances to win medals.

2014 WOMEN’S TEAMS: Andorra, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Romania, host Russia, Spain, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda, Uruguay and USA.

EVENT HISTORY: 2014 marks the second edition for the biennial event. At the inaugural 2012 FIBA 3x3 World Championship, which was held in Athens, Greece, the USA women’s team, featuring Skylar Diggins, Bria Hartley, Chiney Ogwumike and Ann Strother, captured the gold medal with a perfect 9-0 record. France took home the silver and Australia earned the bronze. In addition to her women’s team gold medal, Diggins also claimed silver in the skills challenge.

 

NOTE: FIBA is not conducting a 3x3 U18 World Championship in 2014, instead the 3x3 event will be held as part of the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
