Colorado Springs, Colo. July 22, 2008

Gathering for the first time as a single unit, the 2008 USA Basketball Womens National Team will practice July 28-31 in Palo Alto, Calif., in its final domestic training camp before traveling to the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

I am ready and excited to finally have all 12 Olympians in camp together, to continue our work toward that Olympic gold medal, said USA head coach Anne Donovan, a three-time Olympian. Although we have been through many competitions and training these last two years, this time we have all the pieces of our team together. This group is stacked with talent and they have the motivation and drive to get us where we want to be. The FIBA Diamond Ball Tournament will be a great test in our preparation. The tournament has all the perceived favorites to medal in Beijing and Im sure it will be extremely competitive.

The 12-member USA roster features veteran Olympic gold medalists and young talented stars, including three-time Olympic gold medalist Lisa Leslie (Los Angeles Sparks); two-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Smith (Detroit Shock); Sue Bird (Seattle Storm), Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever), DeLisha Milton-Jones (Los Angeles Sparks), Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury) and Tina Thompson (Houston Comets), all of whom have earned Olympic gold; as well as first time Olympians Seimone Augustus (Minnesota Lynx), Sylvia Fowles (Chicago Sky), Kara Lawson (Sacramento Monarchs), Candace Parker (Los Angeles Sparks) and Cappie Pondexter (Phoenix Mercury).
