The American women qualified for the 2012 U17 Worlds by virtue of their gold-medal finish at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship. Also qualifying from the FIBA Americas U16 Championship were silver medalist Brazil and bronze medalist Canada.

Finalists for the eventual 12-member team will be selected following trials, which are set for May 17-20 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
