Gabby Green Beats the Odds
Following two consecutive summers of bitterness and hurt, Gabby Green nearly gave up. In the summer of 2011, she traveled to Colorado Springs, Colo., to try out for the USA Women’s U16 National Team. The next summer she returned and attempted to earn a spot on the USA Women’s U17 World Championship Team. For Green, her first two tryouts with USA Basketball teams produced the same result: cut and sent home early. Story

USA U19 Women Play Tourist on Their Day Off
After three straight days of games, teams competing in the FIBA U19 World Championship had a day off. Rather than spending their off day sitting around and doing nothing, the USA U19 squad headed out on a tour that included time with some llamas, seeing one of the many volcanos in the Los Logos region of Chile and sledding. Stefanie Dolson recently completed her freshman season at perennial women’s basketball national contender University of Connecticut and completed a standout freshman season for the 36-2 Big East champions who advanced to the 2011 NCAA Final Four. The 6-5 center started in 36 of her team’s 38 games, and averaged double-digit scoring (10.2 ppg.).
