2. Taiwan (3-4) 6. USA (3-4)
3. Brazil (5-2) 7. Netherlands (2-5)
4. South Korea (4-3) 8. Malaysia (0-7)

The U.S. cruised to an easy opening 79-40 victory against Malaysia behind a 15 point performance by 6'3' center Sharon Manning. Manning followed that with a game-high 13 points and seven rebounds as the USA earned its second win, a 56-44 defeat of the Netherlands.

The Americans next faced South Korea, the defending Jones Cup champions. Trailing 47-39 at the half, the U.S. slowly chipped away at the lead and with less than a minute remaining, the USA managed to tie the score at 76-76. However, South Korea scored four unanswered points to close out the contest and earn the 80-76 victory. Manning once again led the U.S. with 17 points and 5'10' Jenny Kuziemski and 5'7' Danyel Parker added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Despite the loss, the USA's medal hopes were still alive. Needing one victory in their final two games of preliminary play, the U.S. fell 72-49 to eventual silver medalists Republic of China.

In a must-win situation, the United States went up against
undefeated Hungary. The U.S. kept pace with the Hungarian
contingent during the game's early goings and with less than nine
minutes to go in the first half, the USA led 18-16. Hungary then outscored the U.S. 18-5 to take a commanding lead 34-23 with less than three minutes to go and closed out the half with a 40-27 advantage. The U.S. could not make up the difference in the second half and Hungary took the 71-52 victory. Parker, the only USA player to score in double-digits, led the Americans with 10 points while Manning added nine.

Entering into the consolation round, the USA faced Malaysia for the second time in the tournament. The Americans once again prevailed, 72-35, as Manning led the U.S. attack with a game-high 14 points and 6'0' center Kerri Hobbs pitched in 11 points and a game-high five rebounds.

The U.S. closed out the 1990 competition with a close 61-58 loss to Japan, despite a 15 point performance by Manning and 10 from Parker.

Hungary defeated the Republic of China a 73-50 in the final game to remain undefeated and claim the gold medal, while Brazil claimed the bronze with a 78-56 win over South Korea.

Manning, who averaged 13.6 ppg. and 6.1 rpg., led the USA's efforts while Parker was the team's second leading scorer and rebounder with 9.0 ppg. and 4.9 rpg.
