After working as a communications intern from April to September 2006, Jenny Johnston was hired full time as a communications manager in October 2006 and was promoted to assistant director, communications in November 2016.
Johnston assists with the general administration of the communications department for USA Basketball while serving as a liaison between USA Basketball staff, coaches, players and the media. Her responsibilities include the production of press releases and publications, maintenance of usabasketball.com and staffing of USA Basketball trials, team training and competitions.
In addition to acting as the primary media contact for many of USA Basketball’s youth teams, Johnston also was also a member of USA Basketball's communications staff in Beijing, London and Rio de Janiero, working with the men's and women's 2008, 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympic Teams, and for the USA women’s team at the 2010 and 2014 FIBA World Cups.
Prior to arriving at USA Basketball, Johnston, neé Maag, worked as an intern for the Seattle Sonics & Storm public relations department during the 2004 and 2005 Seattle Storm seasons and the Sonics' 2004-05 playoff run.
Additionally, she served as a management information systems runner for ESPN at the 2005 Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado.
While attending Western Washington University, Johnston worked for The Western Front as a reporter, copy and sports editor and community liaison. In addition, she produced and hosted a sports talk show and worked as a sports commentator and reporter for Western's television broadcast club, KVIK.
The Seattle native earned her bachelor's degree in journalism from Western Washington University in 2004 and now resides in Colorado Springs.
