Shop Now3x3 basketball debuted as an official FIBA competition at the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. Sterling Gibbs was on the first U.S. men’s team.
The inaugural men’s 3x3 Youth Olympic Games Team in 2010 lost to Serbia in overtime of the semifinals and to Greece in the bronze medal game to finish in fourth place. In addition to Gibbs, the team featured Brandan Kearney (pictured), along with K.C. Caudill and Angelo Chol.
After competing in the first FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup in 2011, the U.S. men won their first 3x3 U18 World Cup medal in 2012, with an 8-2 record and silver-medal finish. The squad included Larry Austin (left), DeMonte Flannigan (center), Brett Brady (right) and Rondaé Hollis-Jefferson (not pictured).
Current Toronto Raptors member Rondaé Hollis-Jefferson also won a bronze medal in the dunk contest at the 2012 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup.
At the 2012 FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Athens, Greece, the USA’s Adetayo Adesanya, who lettered as a high jumper at Purdue University, won a silver medal in the dunk contest.
The USA’s Demetrius Miller won a bronze medal in the dunk contest at the 2014 FIBA 3x3 World Cup.
2016 was the first year the U.S. men won a medal at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup – winning silver with a team that included (from left to right) Kavon Lytch, Stefhon Hannah, Myke Henry, and Alfonzo McKinnie.
Six-foot-6 Myke Henry, who scored 50 points (7.1 ppg.) in the USA’s seven games and finished second among the 80-athlete field at the 2016 FIBA 3x3 World Cup, was named to the three-member all-tournament team.
Alfonzo McKinnie won silver in the dunk contest at the 2016 FIBA 3x3 World Cup.
In 2019, the U.S. men finished 7-0 at the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to win the first U.S. men’s 3x3 U18 title. The team included (from left to right) Ethan Morton, Dawson Garcia, Devin Askew and Nimari Burnett.
Dawson Garcia, who averaged 7.4 points per game in the USA’s seven wins, was named MVP at the 2019 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup.
Six-foot-3 Nimari Burnett won silver in the dunk contest at the 2019 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup.
The U.S. men captured gold at the inaugural 3x3 competition at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, featuring (from left to right) Kareem Maddox, Dominique Jones, Sheldon Jeter and Jon Octeus.
2019 saw the U.S. men finish 7-0 and win their first gold at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup. The gold medal team featured Canyon Barry (left), Damon Huffman (5), Kareem Maddox (9) and Robbie Hummel (right).
2019 FIBA 3x3 World Cup MVP Robbie Hummel also was named the 2019 USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year.
In November of 2019, USA Basketball qualified for the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which has been postponed. The USA men will compete for one of three Olympic berths when the tournament is rescheduled.
