She’s baaaack! Six-time gold medalist and two-time USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year (2011, 2013) Breanna Stewart had been radio silent on Twitter since last November. That’s because University of Connecticut women’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma mandates that his players stay off social media during the season. But now that Stewart and the Huskies have won their third consecutive NCAA national championship, she has been quite active on Twitter.

Two-time Ohio Mr. Basketball and USA Basketball gold medalist Luke Kennard did more than just represent his country in Saturday’s Nike Hoop Summit. He was the USA’s top scorer with 22 points.

Some of the players at the Nike Hoop Summit – all high school seniors -- had already declared their college intentions for the fall. Six-foot-8 Bishop O'Dowd H.S. (Oakland, Calif.) forward Ivan Rabb was one of the undecided players. Not anymore – Rabb announced Monday on his Twitter feed that he will be going to Cal.

Six-time USA Basketball gold medalist Tina Charles, who has been playing for Federbahce of the EuroLeague, was grateful that EuroLeague has made Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) mandatory at all games. Charles’ foundation, Hopey’s Heart, is dedicated to the donation of AEDs to help prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest among athletes.

University of Florida head coach Billy Donovan notched his 500th career NCAA victory Saturday night, as noted here by former UF player and current Atlanta Hawk Al Horford, as well as Donovan himself. Donovan, who led the 2014 USA Men’s U18 National Team to a gold medal at the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship and is 19-0 as a USA Basketball head coach, is the second fastest men's Division I coach to reach 500 victories.

There was an outpouring of love over the weekend for Anthony Mason, the former New York Knick who passed away Saturday at the age of 48. Among the current NBA notables who paid tribute was USA Basketball gold medalist Stephen Curry, who recalled spending time with Mason as a kid.

It’s clear that the start of basketball season brings a smile to the face of Destinee Walker, who won her first gold medal with the USA Basketball U18 National Team this summer at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship. This is a big week for many high school basketball players, as it’s the start of the early signing period for 2015 college basketball recruits. One such player is Asia Durr, who has helped USA Basketball win gold each of the past two summers – she was part of the 2014 USA U17 World Championship Team, and tournament MVP for the team that won the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship. Durr, from Douglasville, Georgia, has already verbally committed to the University of Louisville.
