In its first game on Aug. 6, the USA fought back from an eight-point deficit to claim a 70-62 victory over Argentina. Chennedy Carter led with 14 points, Tyasha Harris had 13 points, Mikayla Pivec chipped in 11 and Michaela scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
The U.S. had no trouble racing past the U.S. Virgin Islands 103-55 on Aug. 7. Led by 16 points from Taylor Mikesell, 11 U.S. players scored, including six in double digits. Onyenwere had 15 points; Beatrice Mompremier contributed 12 points and five rebounds; Carter added 11 points; and Peyton Williams and Brittany Brewer each added 10 points. The USA passed out 26 assists, led by six from Kiana Williams.
The USA jumped out to a 24-13 first quarter lead and never looked back on its way to a 75-63 victory over Colombia on Aug. 7. Mompremier had 15 points, and all 12 U.S. players put points on the board. Also scoring in double digits were Onyenwere with 14 points and nine rebounds and Harris with 10 points.
In a hard-fought semifinal that featured 17 lead changes and eight tied scores, the USA held off Puerto Rico for a 62-59 win on Aug. 9. Throughout the contest neither team led by more than five points, and the USA was behind 57-56 with 2:32 to play. From there, Harris pulled up for two points, Bella Alarie scored an offensive rebound and Carter and Alarie each added a free throw to help the seal the win. Mompremier added 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The USA came up short in the gold medal game on Aug. 10, falling 79-73 to Brazil. Down 55-53 to start the fourth quarter, the U.S. tied the game at 57-all, but Brazil took control with a 10-4 scoring run to lead 72-62 with 1:28 to play. Brazil made seven of its final eight free throws to secure the victory. Carter and Mompremier each finished with 16 points, Mompremier added 12 rebounds and Harris contributed 14 points and five assists.
Puerto Rico won bronze with a 66-55 victory over Colombia.
