Shop NowUSA Basketball announced 16 finalists for the 2022 USA Basketball Women’s U17 National Team following three days of trials in Colorado Springs.
The finalists, selected from among 40 trials invitees, will vie for one of 12 spots on the U17 National Team that will compete at the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup in Hungary from July 9-17. The final roster will be announced next week. The players ultimately selected will reconvene in Colorado Springs for training camp from June 25-30 before departing for the 2022 U17 Women’s World Cup.
Finalists were selected by the USA Basketball Women’s Development National Team Committee and represent the high school graduating classes of 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The 2022 WU17 National Team finalists are Sunaja Agara, Sienna Betts, Madison Booker, Jaloni Cambridge, Morgan Cheli, Breya Cunningham, Jaydn Donovan, Kendall Dudley, Hannah Hidalgo, Reagan Jackson, Riley Nelson, Mackenly Randolph, Kennedy Umeh, Judea Watkins, Jada Williams and Mikaylah Williams.
Booker, Cambridge, Cunningham, Donovan, Dudley, Watkins and Jada Williams were members of the 2021 USA Women’s U16 National Team that defeated Canada 118-45 for the gold medal at the 2021 FIBA Women’s U16 Americas Championship.
Other finalists with past USA Basketball experience also includes Mikaylah Williams, who won gold with the Women’s U18 3x3 team at the 2021 FIBA 3x3 World Cup, and Kennedy Umeh, who was a finalist for the 2021 U16 roster.
Training camp is being run by 2022 U17 National Team coaching staff Sue Phillips (Archbishop Mitty High School), Tom McConnell (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) and Brittanny Johnson (Evanston Township High School).
Since the WU17 World Cup’s establishment in 2010, USA has captured four gold medals (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018). The 2020 WU17 World Cup was cancelled due to COVID-19.
