  • Selected a member of the 2009 USA U19 World Championship Team that finished 9-0 and won the gold medal.
  • Averaged during the FIBA U19 World Championship a team third best 10.0 ppg., 5.7 rpg., 1.8 apg., 1.1 bpg., 1.4 spg., shot 41.4 percent (12-29 3pt FGs) from 3-point.

  • Attended Butler University and started all 60 games during his two years at Butler.
  • Averaged 14.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 60 career games (all starts) over a two-year career.
  • Named 2009-10 Horizon League Player of the Year, 2008-09 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year and was selected All-Horizon League first team both seasons.
  • Named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team at the 2010 NCAA Final Four and was selected Most Outstanding Player of the 2010 NCAA West Regional.
  • Led Butler to a 33-5 record and the first Final Four in school history and to the NCAA Championship Game as a sophomore. Appeared in 37 games (all starts), averaging 15.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
  • Had 12 points and a team-high 8 rebounds in the NCAA title game versus Duke.
  • Appeared in 32 games (all starts) as a true freshman, averaged 13.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
  • Set a freshman school record connecting on seven 3-pointers against both Ohio State and Illinois-Chicago.
  • Became the first Butler player drafted since 1983 NBA Draft (Lynn Mitchem in ninth round, 186th overall).
  • Was majoring in computer engineering at Butler and maintained a 3.31 GPA and was selected Academic All-American third team.


PERSONAL NOTES:

  • Born on March 23, 1990.
  • Son of Gordon Scott and Jody Hayward; has a twin sister named Heather who was a member of the Butler women’s tennis team.
  • Full name is Gordon Daniel Hayward.
  • Attended Brownsburg High School and as a senior in 2007–08, averaged 18.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
  • Named first team All-State and led Brownsburg to the Indiana Class 4A state championship. In the 4A state title game, hit the game-winning layup at the buzzer to defeat Marion High School, 40–39.
  • Received the Arthur L. Trester Award, presented to the outstanding high school senior participant in each classification, based on excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in Indiana.
  • Was also a high school tennis player who advanced to the Indiana state singles quarterfinals.
