Dr. Stephen Foley, a team doctor for the Sioux Falls Skyforce for more than 25 years, specializes in sports medicine and primary care. He treats acute and chronic conditions for all patients from newborn to older adults. Dr. Foley is also a sports medicine provider for the University of South Dakota.
In June 2017 Dr. Foley was presented with the Friends of Athletic Training Award at the annual South Dakota Athletic Trainers' Association (SDATA) awards banquet. Foley has provided services to USD Sports Medicine as a general physician since 2014. The SDATA Friends of Athletic Training Award was created to recognize individuals for making significant contributions to the profession of athletic training in the state of South Dakota.
He has worked with USA Basketball since 1997. He has served as the team physcian for the 1997 USA Team that collected gold at the 1997 FIBA Americas Championship in Montevideo, Uruguay. Most recently he served as team physician for the February 2020 USA AmeriCup Qualifying Team that recorded wins over Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. Additionally, he served as the USA physician for all six windows of the 2017-19 FIBA Americas World Cup Qualifying Team, and worked with the 2017 USA AmeriCup Team that captured gold.
He graduated from the University of South Dakota Medical School and completed his residency at the Sioux Falls Family Practice. Foley is certified by the American Board of Family Practice and has the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine.
