Steve Turner will serve as an assistant coach for the 2022 USA U17 national team after helping lead the USA team to a 6-0 record and gold medal at the 2021 FIBA Americas U16 Men's Championship in Xalapa, Mexico.
Turner also helped conduct a minicamp for U16 hopefuls in May of 2021 at the USA Men's Junior National Team minicamp.
He has served as a court coach at the 2019 USA Basketball Junior National Team October minicamp, the 2019 USA U16 National Team training camp, the 2019 JNT July minicamp and the 2022 USA Basketball Junior National Team April minicamp.
Turner recently completed his 18th year at Gonzaga College High School in Washington D.C. (2004-05 to present), where he has compiled an overall record of 414-154 (.729). He was a varsity assistant coach from 1999-2004 before taking the head coaching reigns.
In 2019-20, Turner led his team to a 25-10 record and a DCSAA Class AA state championship. In 2018-19, the Eagles finished 28-9 and won a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship for the fourth time under Turner.
Turner’s success has led him to numerous coach of the year titles, including WCAC Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2017; Capital Classic DMV Coach of the Year in 2017; National Gatorade Coach of the Year in 2016; USA Today ALL-USA District of Columbia Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2019; Washington Post ALL-MET Coach of the Year in 2019; Washington Post District of Columbia Coach of the Year in 2008; and DC Sports Fan Coach of the Year in 2008.
A DC native, Turner has a bachelor's degree in corporate communications from Southern Connecticut State University. He and his wife Leah have two son, Christina and Jared.
