USA forward Lauren Cox was named tournament MVP.

The USA opened with an impressive 117-32 defeat of Guatemala. The USA overpowered Guatemala on the boards 73-24, scored 47 points off of 32 turnovers, tallied 42 fast-break points, got 55 points off of the bench and recorded 28 assists. Chennedy Carter had 17 points; Sidney Cooks added 16 points and eight rebounds; Ruthy Hebard had 12 points, including 4-of-4 from the free throw line; Jeannie Boehm accounted for 10 points and nine rebounds; Tyasha Harris dished out eight assists; Evina Westbrook grabbed six steals; and Megan Walker was 4-of-4 from the line on her way to 11 points.

Trailing in the first quarter, the USA got on track and steadily pulled away from Brazil for an 80-59 win on July 14. Having missed the first game due to a sprained left ankle, Cox led with 13 points and nine boards; Carter added 12 points; Walker contributed 11; and Harris had 10 points. Dana Evans had six assists. The USA had 49 rebounds to Brazil’s 34, got 44 points off the bench and 35 fast-break points, while Brazil had just 10 points in transition.

Leading from start to finish, the USA wrapped up preliminary round play with a 110-52 win over Venezuela on July 15. The USA drained six 3-pointers in the first quarter to help compile a 36-17 lead. Four of those came from Amber Ramirez, who finished 5-of-11 from 3 and with 18 points and six assists. Cox added 14 points, 10 boards and tied the record with five blocked shots; Cooks had 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists; Evans contributed 14 points and five assists; and Harris recorded six assists. The USA outrebounded Venezuela 65-31, got 55 points from the bench, had 35 points from turnovers and 41 points on the fast-break.

The U.S. defense starred in a 104-36 win over Puerto Rico on July 16, giving up just three points in the second quarter. Cox grabbed 10 of her 13 rebounds in the first quarter, while Carter led with 17 points and four assists; Cooks, Valerie Higgins and Walker each added 11; and Evans finished with 10 points. The USA had a 61-29 rebounding advantage, forced Puerto Rico into 26 turnovers, which it converted into 38 points, got 59 points from non-starters.

Outscoring Canada 33-14 in the third quarter, the USA took control  in the second half on its way to a 109-62 victory and a gold medal. The USA had six players in double-digit scoring and committed just three turnovers while forcing Canada into 24. Harris led with 18 points, four steals and three assists; Cox had 15 points; Walker had 12 points and four assists; Carter and Hebard each scored 11; and Ramirez contributed 10 points.

Rellah Boothe set a competition record at 9-of-9 from the line, and Cox set a record for blocks averaged (2.8 bpg.). As a team, the USA set marks for field goal attempts (403), 3-point attempts (87) and rebounds (296).

In the bronze medal game, Brazil topped Puerto Rico 74-60. The USA, Brazil, Canada and Puerto Rico, earned a berth into the 2017 FIBA U17 World Championship.
