The 2009 USA Basketball Women's World University Games team downed all comers in the 2009 tournament July 1-11 in Belgrade, Serbia. The USA rolled over its opponents by an average of 33.1 points per game, on its way to a perfect 7-0 tally and a record seventh consecutive gold medal.

Despite losing Maya Moore to a knee sprain prior to the start of the tournament, the USA squad finished first in five of 19 team statistical categories and listed No. 2 in eight others. Averaging 48.4 rebounds per game, the 2009 squad set a U.S. team competition record for rebounds averaged.

In its first contest, the USA forced 44 turnovers and shot 56.1 percent from the field to cruise to an easy 85-point, 115-30 win over France. Tina Charles led five U.S. players in double figures with 18 points, followed by 16 points and 12 rebounds from Jantel Lavender.

Against Great Britain, the USA needed just 10 minutes to build a comfortable lead before it ran away with a 93-59 victory. Lavender led the way with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Danielle McCray tallied 15 points and Ta'Shia Phillips added 11 points and eight rebounds.

After a first-quarter fight from Serbia, the USA buckled down on defense and held its opponent to just 36.7 shooting from the field overall to secure a 84-50 win and Group A's No. 1 seed headed into the second round. Charles, who shot 8-of-10 from the field, led the USA with 17 points, followed by Ashley Houts and McCray with 12 points apiece.

The USA fought off a resilient Poland team to remain undefeated with a 75-67 win on July 5. Charles recorded 12 points and 10 rebounds while McCray added 12 points.

Including 20 points from Charles, the USA featured five players in double figures as it crushed Czech Republic 115-78 on July 7 to advance to the semifinals as a No. 1 seed.

Facing Australia in the semifinals, the USA rode a 25-0 first quarter run to an 81-66 victory. McCray led with 15 points and five rebounds, followed by Charles with 12 points and 10 boards.

A monster 28-point, 18-rebound performance from Charles helped propel the USA past a previously unbeaten Russia 83-64 and on to an undefeated gold medal. The USA dominated the glass, outrebounding Russia 52-32 and scoring 22 second-chance points. Lavender added 14 points, and Kayla Pedersen contributed 11 points.

Charles finished as the USA's leading scorer and rebounder with 16.1 ppg. and 8.1 rpg., followed by McCray with 12.0 ppg. and Lavender with 10.4 ppg.
