2023 USA BASKETBALL WOMEN’S U16 NATIONAL TEAM TRIALS INFO

USA Basketball is excited to announce the Trials process for the 2023 USA Women's U16 National Team. The 2023 USA Women’s U16 National Team Trials will include an application process in addition to an invitation component. The USA Basketball Developmental National Team Committee is responsible for all facets of Trials and team selection. Accordingly, the committee will determine approximately 35 athletes to receive an invitation to attend Trials. Those athletes will receive their invitation by April 3.

All interested athletes may apply to attend the Trials by submitting an application no later than March 24. The committee will determine approximately 15 athletes to then attend Trials. Athletes will be notified of the committee’s decision to attend the Trials by April 3.

Trials and training camp are scheduled to occur at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center (OPTC) in Colorado Springs, CO. The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) follows the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local government guidance to determine mitigation measures based upon the CDC’s Community Levels. Thus, USA Basketball must follow the USOPC COVID-19 protocols. The USOPC currently utilizes three (3) levels of risk profiles (i.e. Low, Moderate and High) to determine these protocols. Health and safety protocols are subject to change pending the risk profile level. Details regarding the USOPC’s policies can be found here.

All visitors over the age of 5 (e.g., parents and family members) are required to show proof of ‘up to date’ COVID-19 vaccination status in order to enter the OPTC campus.  Please be prepared to show proper documentation.

The CDC defines two (2) levels of vaccination status:

Fully vaccinated: This status applies to an individual two weeks after they received all recommended does in their primary COVID-19 vaccine series.

Up to date: This status applies to an individual when they have received all recommended doses in their primary COVID-19 vaccine series, and recommended booster doses when eligible.  For optimal protection against COVID-19, the CDC recommends that individuals remain ‘up to date’ by obtaining all COVID-19 booster doses for which they are eligible.

USA Basketball health protocols are based on CDC guidelines and will be updated as deemed necessary. More information regarding the actual health protocols will be shared closer to the start of Trials.

2023 FIBA Americas Women's U16 Championship

Trials to select finalists for the 12-member team will be held from May 25-29, 2023, with final team selection on May 31 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. The 2023 FIBA Americas U16 Championship will be held from June 12-18 in a to be determined location. 

Players eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens born on or after January 1, 2007.

Trials Components

• Trials sessions may include individual skills, 3x3 tournament and scrimmage opportunities. 
• Applicant athletes and invited athletes will participate together in the same Trials sessions. 
• USA Basketball will be responsible for all expenses for invited participants and the final 12-member team.
• Applicant athletes are responsible for the following:
  • Arranging and paying for own air travel to and from team selection
  • Please Note:
  • USA Basketball will fully staff arrivals to greet all players at the airport. 
  • We highly recommended that applicant athletes wait until confirmation (April 3) before purchasing airline tickets.
  • $170 registration fee, received no later than April 7 (payment link will be provided to the applicant athletes approved to attend Trials, must be paid within three days of confirmation of attendance).
  • No checks/money orders will be accepted.
• USA Basketball will provide local ground transportation, lodging and all meals
• All athletes (invited and applicant) must complete an online registration and provide:

• Picture of COVID Vaccination Card and boosters (if applicable)
• Statement from physician medically clearing participation (high school physicals within last twelve (12) months from the start of Trials will be accepted) 
• Provide a copy of their birth certificate
• Possession of a current U.S. Passport – please note most countries require a passport to be at least valid from 6 months of the date of return from competition (day after final date of the tournament)

• The USA Basketball Developmental National Team Committee will determine participants should the number of applications exceed the number of available spaces.
• Trials participants will be confirmed by April 3.
