Viewing: Moriah Jefferson

The Opening Ceremonies for the 2015 Pan American Games on July 10 saw the 12 members of the U.S. women’s basketball team and their coaches walk into the Pan Am Dome as a part of a U.S. delegation that lists a total of 625 athletes.

Following three days of trials that featured 51 athletes at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the 12-member roster for the 2015 U.S. Pan American Women’s Basketball Team today was announced and features seven players who have won at least one gold medal with USA Basketball.

Just a few weeks ago, Notre Dame forward Taya Reimer was taking on the University of Connecticut's Moriah Jefferson and Breanna Stewart on college basketball's biggest stage - the NCAA National Championship game. This weekend, all three players are among 51 of the nation's top collegians who are competing for a roster spot on either the U.S. Pan American Women's Basketball Team or the USA Women's World University Games Team.

“My expectation for the weekend is definitely some tough competition,” stated Louisville’s Mariya Moore. “Every day is going to be a battle.” Moore was not kidding when she made that statement.

There are 23 players with USA Basketball experience who have reached the Final Four in the 2015 NCAA Tournaments -- 15 on the women's side and eight on the men's side.

The Sweet 16 of the NCAA Women's Tourament features 40 players with USA Basketball experience, spread among 13 of the 16 teams. Here are some of them.

A two-time USA Basketball Female Athlete of the Year and several multiple-gold medalists are among the women's basketball players back in action this month with major NCAA Division I programs.
