In 2015 USA Basketball will field four men’s teams for international events. In the traditional full-court, 5-on-5 game, USA Basketball will field 12-member teams for the FIBA U19 World Championship, FIBA Americas U16 Championship and Pan American Games. In 3x3 action, USA Basketball will host a pair of 3x3 national tournaments and send four-member teams to the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championships. Additionally, the USA Basketball Men’s National Team will conduct an August training camp to continue to prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games. 

USA Basketball selection committees are responsible for selecting athletes to be invited to team training camps, the actual selection of each 12-member team and ongoing performance evaluations of team members. Generally participation on a USA Basketball team is by invitation only, however, all interested players are encouraged to download the USA Basketball Athlete Consideration Form and return the completed form to USA Basketball by Jan. 30, 2015, to ensure consideration. Each 2015 event is summarized below to better understand the opportunities for athletes this summer.

2015 FIBA U19 World Championship

Featuring 16 U19 national teams from around the world, the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship will be held June 27-July 5 in Crete, Greece. Training camp for the 2015 USA U19 World Championship Team will be held June 12-26, 2015, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The 12-member team will be selected during training camp, and selected athletes will return home following the conclusion of the tournament. Athletes will receive an invitation to attend the training camp in early March.

2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship

The 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship (site TBD), tentatively scheduled for June 10-14, serves as the qualifying tournament for the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championship and features eight U16 national teams from North, South and Central America and the Caribbean.

Training camp will be held May 28-June 9 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and athletes selected to the 12-member team will return home following the conclusion of the competition. Athletes will receive an invitation to attend the training camp in early March.

2015 Pan American Games

A multi-sport event featuring teams from North, South and Central America and the Caribbean, the Pan American Games are held every four years in the year preceding the Olympic Games. The 2015 Pan Am Games men’s basketball competition will be held July 21-25 in Toronto, Canada, and training camp to select the 12-member team will be held July 6-20 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Athletes will receive an invitation to attend the training camp in early May.  Players eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens.

Players interested, available and eligible for the U16, U19 or Pan American Games competitions are encouraged to complete the Player Consideration Form, which is due Jan. 30, 2015.

2015 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championship

The 2015 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championship will be held June 4-7 in Hungary. In order to be eligible, athletes must participate in at least one FIBA-sanctioned 3x3 tournament in 2015 prior to the USA Basketball 3x3 U18 National Tournament, scheduled to be held April 30-May 3 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Teams must be selected through their respective 3x3 tournaments and approved by USA Basketball in order to receive an invitation to participate in the 2015 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 National Tournament.

Athletes must register with FIBA and create their player profile on FIBA's 3x3planet.com.

The winning team at the USA 3x3 U18 National Tournament will earn the right to represent USA Basketball at the 2015 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championship.

Additional information, including a listing of organizations around the country hosting 3x3 tournaments, will be available here soon. Athletes must compete in at least one of these events in order to be eligible to participate in the 2015 USA Basketball 3x3 National Tournament, but it is strongly encouraged to compete in as many tournaments as possible to increase seeding in the 2015 USA 3x3 U18 National Tournament.

2015 USA Basketball 3x3 National Tournament

USA Basketball will host the 2015 3x3 National Tournament July 24-26 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In order to be eligible, athletes must participate in at least one FIBA-sanctioned 3x3 tournament in 2015 prior to the USA Basketball 3x3 National Tournament.

The winning team at the USA 3x3 National Tournament will earn a berth to the 2016 USA Basketball 3x3 National Tournament, from which the 2016 USA 3x3 World Championship Team will be named.

Athletes must register with FIBA and create their player profile on FIBA's 3x3planet.com.

3x3 Event Operators: To become an official qualifying tournament for the USA Basketball 3x3 OPEN and U18 National Tournaments, interested 3x3 operators must use the FIBA 3x3 EventMaker Software to create, manage, and enter results to build ranking points within the U.S.; and meet USA Basketball terms and requirements.
