USA BASKETBALL TRAINING CAMP SITE: U.S. Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Bahia Blanca, Argentina
EVENT DESCRPITION: The 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, scheduled to be held from June 10-14 in Bahia Blanca, Argentina, will feature eight national teams from North, South and Central America and the Caribbean.
The top four finishing teams will qualify for the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championship.
ELIGIBILITY: Athletes eligible for this team must be 16-years-old or younger (born on or after 1/1/99) and U.S. citizens.
2015 QUALIFIED TEAMS (8): Including host Argentina, also qualified are Canada and the United States as the North American entries; while Mexico (gold medalist), Puerto Rico (silver medalist) and Dominican Republic (bronze medalist) qualified through the 2014 Centrobasket U15 Championship; while and Brazil (gold medalist) and Venezuela (bronze medalist) qualified through the 2014 South American U15 Championship.
PRELIMINARY ROUND GROUPS: TBD (two groups of four teams each)
USA EVENT HISTORY: As the previous two USA Men’s U16 National Teams had done, the 2013 USA Men’s U16 National Team rolled to an unblemished 5-0 slate en route to the FIBA Americas U16 Championship gold medal. The USA is now 15-0 in FIBA Americas U16 Championship play and has won the gold medal in all three editions of the tournament.
