Social Media Roundup: Men's U16 Edition

  • Date:
    Jun 2, 2015

In this week’s Social Media Roundup, we’re focusing on the 2015 USA Basketball Men’s U16 National Team, which has been at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, since last week, preparing for the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship taking place in Argentina June 10-14.

To follow U16 players and coaches throughout their journey, check out the MU16 Twitter feed. In the meantime, here are some recent tweets from the players and coaches that is following:

Kevin Knox II

(Tampa Catholic H.S./Tampa, Fla.) was a late addition to the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team roster when he was among the 32 athletes who began the training last week. So it’s easy to understand why he’s as excited as any of the 12 players who were informed Tuesday morning that they made the team.

Before he became a Final Four MVP, Tyus Jones played for the USA Basketball Men’s U16 National Team – so naturally he was excited to get the news that his little brother, Tre Jones, made the 2015 team. Tre Jones and fellow 2015 U16 member Gary Trent Jr. both are from Apple Valley H.S. (Minn.), Tyus’ alma mater.

--- Nice of Wendell Carter Sr. to congratulate Robert Woodard II for making the team. Carter’s son, Wendell Carter Jr., also made the team.

USA Basketball Men’s U16 head coach Don Showalter (Iowa City H.S.), with a shout-out to his assistant coaches, Miles Simon (California Supreme AAU) and Sharman White (Miller Grove H.S., Georgia).

Javonte Smart (Scotlandville HS/Baton Rouge, La.) shows off his skills.

Inspiration from Jalen Hill (Corona Centennial H.S./Corona, Calif.), who is one of the 12 players heading to Argentina as a member of the USA U16 National Team.

Assistant coach Miles Simon has ties to two generations of O’Bannons.

Assistant coach Sharman White and player Wendell Carter Jr. representing the Peach State.
