EVENT DESCRIPTION: The third FIBA 3x3 World Championship, an event launched in 2012 and held every other year, is expected to feature 20 men's teams and 20 women's teams in 2016. In addition to the men’s and women’s 3x3 tournaments, included in the 2016 3x3 World Championship program will be skills contests, giving athletes chances to win additional medals.  

ELIGIBILITY: In order to be eligible, athletes must participate in at least one FIBA-sanctioned 3x3 tournament prior to participating in the 2016 USA Basketball 3x3 National Tournament that is scheduled to be held Aug. 26-28 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. To receive an invitation to participate in the 2016 USA Basketball 3x3 National Tournament, teams must be selected through a qualifying 3x3 tournament and approved by USA Basketball.

Athletes eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens.

2016 QUALIFIED TEAMS (20): In addition to host China, and the USA, which earned its berth by virtue of claiming gold at the 2014 event, teams qualified for the 2016 FIBA 3x3 World Championship for Women include: Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chinese Taipei, Cooks Island, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Spain, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates.

PRELIMINARY ROUND GROUPS: TBD (four groups of five teams each)

EVENT HISTORY: The USA women’s 3x3 teams have compiled a perfect 18-0 overall record and captured gold at both the 2012 and 2014 FIBA 3x3 World Championships.

USA WOMEN’S 3X3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM PLAYERS OF NOTE: The 2012 USA 3x3 team featured Skylar Diggins, Bria Hartley, Chiney Ogwumike and Ann Strother; while the 2014 team was comprised of Cierra Burdick, Sara Hammond, Jewell Loyd and Tiffany Mitchell.
