USA BASKETBALL TRAINING CAMP SITE: U.S. Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado; TBD, Spain

EVENT DESCRIPTION: First held in 2010, the FIBA U17 World Championship features the world’s top 17-year-old and younger players. FIBA currently holds U17 World Championships every two years.

The USA earned its qualifying spot for the U17 worlds last summer by capturing gold at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship with a 5-0 record.

ELIGIBILITY: Athletes eligible for this team must be 17-years-old or younger (born on or after 1/1/99) and U.S. citizens.

2016 QUALIFIED TEAMS (16): In addition to host Spain, nations qualified for the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championship include: Egypt and Mali from FIBA Africa; Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic and the United States from FIBA Americas; China, South Korea and Taiwan from FIBA Asia; Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, France, Lithuania and Turkey from FIBA Europe; and Australia from FIBA Oceania.

Group A: Egypt, Taiwan, Turkey, USA
Group B: Argentina, Lithuania, Mali, Spain
Group C: Australia, Canada, China, Finland
Group D: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dominican Republic, France, South Korea

USA EVENT HISTORY: In 2010, the inaugural FIBA U17 World Championship for Men, the USA captured gold with a perfect 8-0 record and Brad Beal was tabbed MVP of the biennial event. In 2012, Jahlil Okafor earned MVP honors and was joined on the all-tournament team by Justise Winslow as the U.S. again captured gold. Most recently the U.S. made it three-straight after winning gold to up the USA's U17 record to 23-0 as Malik Newman earned tournament MVP honors and Diamond Stone listed on the all-tournament team.

USA U17 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM PLAYERS OF NOTE: Some of the recognizable names who have played for the USA Men’s U17 teams include: Beal (2010); Quinn Cook (2010); Harry Giles (2014), Tyus Jones (2012), Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (2010), James McAdoo (2010), Newman (2014), Okafor (2012), Jabari Parker (2012), Diamond Stone (2014), and Justise Winslow (2012).
