USA head coach Dori Oldaker (Mt. Lebanon H.S., Pa.)
What are your thoughts about the team’s first game?

I thought it was a great opportunity for us to get a game atmosphere under our belts. The kids were very anxious before the game, and it was kind of nice for them to get the jitters out and get some solid play from our team.

Did you see some things you liked and some things you didn’t like?
Definitely there we some good things and, obviously, some things we can improve on. That’s our job as a coaching staff to break it down and fix what is broken and improve.

I imagine you are happy with the rebounding?
We did crash the boards well. It is funny, because it didn’t feel that way during the game, but seeing the stats afterward, yes, our kids did a great job rebounding.

Is this team ready to play in the FIBA U17 World Championship yet?
We definitely are going to need to clean some things up, offensively and defensively, but I think it was a great start for us.

What were your thoughts on France?
They were very disciplined, very well structured. They run their sets very well. We knew it was going to be tough, and I thought they came out with a ton of energy in that first half.

Aquira DeCosta (St. Mary's H.S./Stockton, Calif.)
What are your thoughts about the team’s first game?

I’m excited. We played well. It was our first game. We can get better, but I’m really excited to play with this team and to see what could happen.

Did you see some of the team’s strengths yet?
In the first half, we didn’t do as well on rebounding, but in the second half we picked it up. Also, we did well guarding their main players.

On the team’s rebounding:
We could definitely work a little bit more on rebounding, because we always strive to get better, and I think we are going to get better on that.

Maya Dodson (St. Francis H.S./Alpharetta, Ga.)
What are your thoughts about the team’s first game?
My thoughts on our first game are that we played hard. We made some mistakes, but worked through them, and I’m happy that we were able to win our first game.

Do you think the team got better?
I do think we got better. It was our first time playing overseas, just getting used to the crowd and everything. So, I think that in Spain we will be a lot better.

Did you see some of the team’s strengths yet?
Some of our strengths are rebounding – Aquira and Janelle I think had 13 rebounds, and also running the floor. Those things really helped us win tonight.

What did if feel like to step on the court in your jersey?
It was really crazy, and I was really happy, because all of my hard work paid off and I was able to represent USA.

How do you feel about leaving for Spain tomorrow?
I feel really happy. I’m excited to go to a new country and see how it looks.

Destanni Henderson (Fort Myers H.S./Fort Myers, Fla.)
What are your thoughts about the team’s first game?

I thought we did good for it being our first time playing girls at our level. We started off kind of slow, kind of rocky and forcing stuff, but once we actually got into the game, we played really well together as a team.

What did if feel like to step on the court in your jersey?
It felt good, especially since we won.

What did you think of France?
They had a lot of good players on their team that made us really have to guard them and fight through screens.

How do you feel about leaving for Spain tomorrow?
I’m very excited to get to Spain.
