USA head coach Dori Oldaker (Mt. Lebanon H.S., Pa.)
What are your thoughts on the team’s first game?

It’s a nice win for our team, and it will help build our confidence, but we realize not all of the games are going to be like that. I think it was really nice to get that game under their belts.

Was the plan to take advantage of the USA’s height?
Absolutely, the plan was to get the ball inside. We knew they were going to be quick, so we knew we had to be quick, too, and stay disciplined. I thought we did a pretty nice job with that.

Was the USA’s defense what you hoped for?
We made some switches, and we actually did switch on screens in the second half. I think our kids did a nice job communicating with that.

On the USA’s 22 assists:
The 22 assists, I’m very, very happy with. The 24 turnovers, not so much. We have to be little more disciplined with that ball and take better care of the ball, but I like our unselfish play.

On the USA’s next opponent, Czech Republic:
I’m very superstitious; I do not look ahead, but my assistant coaches got a very good look at Czech Republic. I know they are coming off of a loss, though, and that’s always tough. I know they are going to want to win.

Samantha Brunelle (William Monroe H.S./Ruckersville, Va.)
What are your thoughts on your first game?
Going into the game, there were some nerves, being the first game and all, but after a little bit I settled in. There were a couple of plays that I could have done better on, but I stuck with it and kept my confidence.

How do you think the team played?
The team did very well. We were in sync. It was much better than when we scrimmaged Australia two days ago. We’ve improved since then, and we are just getting better and better as a team.

Charli Collier (Barbers Hill H.S./Mont Belvieu, Texas)
How do you think the team played?
We played really well. We played as a team. It seems like our chemistry is getting really good. We played together and got the job done.

On her 22 points:
I took open shots, and I don’t think I forced anything. The guards did a really good job of getting the posts the ball, and we just all played well.

Aquira DeCosta (St. Mary's H.S./Stockton, Calif.)
On her 17 rebounds:
Rebounding is always one of my focuses, but I wasn’t finishing well around the basket, so I was trying to rebound even more.

How do you think the team played?
The team did very well. We struggled a little bit in the first half, but our intensity was very high. We played with each other well.

Destanni Henderson (Fort Myers H.S./Fort Myers, Fla.)
On her 10 assists:
I was really trying to make the right plays and the right passes to make sure my teammates were getting good shots.

Was it a fun game?
It really was a fun game to play in. Not because we were up by a lot, but when we were up, to actually still work on things.

Taylor Mikesell (Jackson H.S./Massillon, Ohio)
How do you think the team played?

I thought it was a great first game to get under our belts.

Did you feel like the team executed the game plan?
I thought we did really well executing. Obviously, we had quite a few turnovers we can clean up, and we had a lot of sloppy plays. But for that being our first game, I thought we handled it really well.

Was it fun?
It was fun. Everybody was having fun. It was great to be out there and playing with the team.

Olivia Nelson-Ododa (Winder-Barrow H.S./Winder, Ga.)
How do you think the team played?
I think the team played very well. We were playing together, and we tried to take advantage of working on our plays and working on different defenses.

Did you expect to be an offensive focus going into the game?
We did expect that. We just tried to use that to our advantage. I think we did pretty well. We definitely can still work on finishing more. I feel like that will come as we play more games.

On the USA’s 22 assists:
Our guards did such a great job of pushing the ball up the floor and feeding it into the bigs. That helped a lot tonight.
