USA head coach Dori Oldaker (Mt. Lebanon H.S., Pa.)
What are your thoughts on the game?
Czech Republic came in with a sense of urgency. So for our kids, it was a great, teachable moment, and it was very nice to get a win out of it. We need to learn from it and match that intensity. We had some key decision-making moments at the very end of the game, which was good for us.”

You probably are pleased with the rebounding but think the U.S. defense needs to improve?
We did a nice job on the boards. That kept us in the game. Unfortunately, we had too many turnovers, especially in the first half. We cleaned it up a little bit in the second half, but we can’t afford those kind of turnovers.

On playing Italy:
I haven’t looked at Italy yet, because I’m a one-game-at-a-time type of person. They are going to come at us and try and take away our strengths. We need to find out what their weaknesses are and try to take care of our business and take away their strengths as well.

Janelle Bailey (Providence Day School/Matthews, N.C.)
Can you talk about the start you helped the team get off to?

We have been working on guards feeding the posts and relocating, so I think it was part of our goal offensively. It’s hard for teams to guard both. My teammates did a great job of getting me the ball and putting me in a position to score. Czech played great defense the whole game.

What allowed Czech Republic to keep coming back?
A lot of people know one of our strengths is our bigs, and they tried to shut us down. Like I said, that is one of the things we have been working on in practice, so the guards were able to knock down shots.

How does it feel to get this win?
It feels good, obviously, but we still have to stay focused, because we have Italy tomorrow.

Jenna Brown (The Lovett School/Marietta, Ga.)
What are your thoughts on the game?

I thought we really grinded it out. Especially in the second half when things got close. They did beat us to some balls that I think we should have gotten, but overall, I think we grinded the entire game.

What allowed Czech Republic to keep coming back?
I would say the second-chance opportunities they got off of offensive rebounds. They got and-ones and easy baskets.

Olivia Nelson-Ododa (Winder-Barrow H.S./Winder, Ga.)
How does it feel to get this win?

We worked really hard all throughout the game, and we just kept pushing and pushing. It feels great to pull it off.

What allowed Czech Republic to keep coming back?
Definitely their shooting. They can shoot. But towards the end of the game, we did a lot better in defending the outside shot.

Abby Prohaska (Lakota West H.S./Liberty Township, Ohio)
What are your thoughts on the game?
It was really competitive throughout the whole game. I think we brought the intensity early on, which really helped us get the win, but it was overall a really competitive game.

Do you feel like the team played well at the end of the game?
We had our ups and downs, but we came out on top. We really pushed through some adversity.

Christyn Williams (Central Arkansas Christian School/Little Rock, Ark.)
How do you think the team played?

I thought we played well. We had too many turnovers, and we started off a little slow in the second half, but we really picked the intensity up.

On the end of the game:
I knew the guard play had to pick the intensity up, and I thought I should do it. It felt really good to get this win.
