USA Basketball Coach Academy Coming To Los Angeles

The USA Basketball Coach Academy - Presented by Nike makes its next stop on the campus of California State University, Los Angeles on April 22-23.

Coach academies provide valuable insight and education to coaches and administrators of the game. Academy sessions share the USA Basketball curriculum to impart a proper skill development path while teaching the game to players of all ages and ability levels. Additionally, guest speakers focus on areas of expertise to present on basketball and leadership topics applied both on and off the court. Attendees will leave the academy with the opportunity to become USA Basketball Youth Development licensed coaches.

Check-in for the Los Angeles Coach Academy is April 22 from 8-9 a.m. (all times are PDT), and the academy is held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. On April 23, academy sessions take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Coaches may register for $150 through March 31. After March 31, the cost for the academy is $185. The cost includes live training for a USA Basketball Coach License, on and off the court presentations, Nike/USA Basketball gift items, catered meals, a USA Basketball memorabilia display and networking time. The presenters are highlighted by Don Showalter, USA Basketball coach development director and an eight-time USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year award winner; Dave Bollwinkel, a scout for the Chicago Bulls; Sue Phillips, a gold-medal winning USA Basketball head coach for the 2013 USA U16 National Team and the 2014 USA U17 World Championship Team and head girls basketball coach at Archbishop Mitty High School (Calif.) and for the San Jose Cagers AAU; Dave Severns, Los Angeles Clippers pro personnel scout; Miles Simon, head coach of the 2017 USA Nike Hoop Summit Team, ESPN analyst and player development specialist; and Russell Turner, head men’s basketball coach at the University of California, Irvine.

USA Basketball, the national governing body for basketball in the United States, announced its national headquarters will remain in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and will relocate to a new headquarters in downtown Colorado Springs.
