USA Basketball Coach Academy Coming To New York

The USA Basketball New York Coach Academy - Presented by Nike, will take place on May 20-21 at Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon, New York.

Coach academies provide valuable insight and education to coaches and administrators of the game. Academy sessions impart the USA Basketball curriculum for a proper skill development path to teach the game to players of all ages and ability levels. Additionally, guest speakers deliver on and off court sessions on basketball and leadership topics. Attendees will leave the academy with the opportunity to become USA Basketball Youth Development licensed coaches.

Check-in for the New York coach academy is from 8:30-9 a.m. on May 20 (all times are EDT), and the academy sessions will run 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on May 20 and from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on May 21.

Coaches may register for $185. The cost includes live training for a USA Basketball Coach License, on and off the court presentations, Nike/USA Basketball gift items, catered meals, a USA Basketball memorabilia display and networking time. The presenters are highlighted by Don Showalter, USA Basketball coach development director and an eight-time USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year award winner; Kate Achter, head women’s basketball coach at Loyola University Chicago; Bob Cimmino, head boys basketball coach at Mount Vernon High School and a head coach for the victorious 2010 USA Nike Hoop Summit Team; Jim Engles, head men’s basketball coach at Columbia University; Greg Herenda, head men’s basketball coach at Farleigh Dickinson University; Mike Jones, head boys basketball coach at DeMatha Catholic High School (Md.) and a three-time, gold-medal winning USA Basketball coach; Heather Macy, head women’s basketball coach at East Carolina University; and King Rice, head men’s basketball coach at Monmouth University.

Canada was no match for the high-scoring USA Women's U16 team Saturday night in the FIBA America U16 gold medal game as the U.S.rolled to gold with a 87-37 win.

On a day when its outside shots weren’t falling the USA hit 85.6% of its shots from inside and earned a 21-14 victory over Slovenia to advance to the medal semifinals at the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Cup.
