USA head coach Carla Berube (Tufts University)
What were your thoughts on the game?
I thought it was a great game, a great team win. All 12 players got some valuable minutes. Eleven out of the 12 played in their first international competition. It is great to come away with a team win against a tough, Colombia team. They didn’t back down, and they took it to us and made it difficult for us at times. It feels good to have that first win.

On Colombia outscoring the USA 15-14 in the second quarter:
After a tough first quarter for Colombia, they came out with a level of high intensity and put a zone on us that we needed to figure out as a team how to break, and we missed some shots. I thought their defense definitely picked up. They were scrappy, they were physical and those are things that we need to match. We needed to be more intense.

Aliyah Boston (Worcester Academy/Worcester, Mass.)
On the game:
We had some great passes, and we did a great job of crashing the boards offensively and defensively. I think we played a great game overall.

Were there some things that stood out for the team to work on?
Sometimes we could have made one more pass, and we have to work on finishing around the basket.

How did it feel to finally play in a USA jersey in an international game?
It felt really nice. I was very happy.

Samantha Brunelle (William Monroe H.S./Ruckersville, Va.)
On the game:
We improved since our scrimmage yesterday against Canada. We can only get better, and hopefully at shootaround tomorrow, we can tweak a few things and be ready for our game against Mexico.

Did you think the team stayed focused throughout the game?
There were only a couple of times there were some lulls. But, for the most part, we played great team basketball. We were hungry for the ball, and we came out on top.

On the team’s chemistry:
It felt really good, for the first game, to have that kind of chemistry. I can’t wait to see what it looks like in four more days.

Paige Bueckers (Hopkins H.S./Eden Prairie, Minn.)
How did it feel to play in the first game?
We had a lot of energy, and it was a positive outcome. All the hard work, all of the two-a-day practices paid off. It felt great.

On the game:
I think we played well. We had to kind of get used to it. In the first half, we were a little nervous. We started getting our momentum on the defensive end. We got a lot of steals and picked up the energy from there.

On the USA’s depth:
Everyone is just as good as the people starting, and it helps to bring energy off the bench.

Kylee Watson (Mainland Regional H.S./Linwood, N.J.)
On the game:
I thought it was a really great learning experience for us, and I also thought it was a great for us to play against real competition and see how we stood up against them. I think we played a fast game and really utilized our athleticism and our versatility. Overall, we played as a team.

How did it feel for you to play for the first time in your USA Basketball jersey?
It was super humbling, and I was honored just to be out there wearing this jersey. It means so much to have USA on the front of your jersey. You are representing your country, and it’s an incredible opportunity.
