USA head coach Carla Berube (Tufts University)
What were your thoughts on the game?
That was a really, really fun game to be a part of and to coach. It was a balanced attack, one through 12, doing it first on the defensive end, and then getting out on the break and making plays for each other and kicking it out to shooters, offensive rebounding. Just a total team effort. It was great to win against a tough Argentina team. The first half was a grind, and then we opened it up with our defense and our intensity on that end of the floor.

On playing Canada:
We are excited. We started this trip here in Argentina scrimmaging them, and we’ve watched them a couple of times. They have some really talented athletes and basketball players. So, we’ll get focused and get a game plan ready, and hopefully execute it and come away from this great country with a gold medal around our necks.

Caitlin Clark (Dowling Catholic H.S./West Des Moines, Iowa)
On the game:

I thought it went really well. The bench was into it. We started off strong. We were knocking down shots. Our defense was amazing, and when we have good defense, that’s when we really get far in the game.

How much fun was that game?
It was so much fun. That was probably one of the most fun basketball games I’ve played in my life. You could see all of the emotion on all of our faces. We just need to get one more win.

On playing Canada:
I think we have a good chance. We just need to bring the same intensity and the same defense. Then, good things should happen.

Jordan Horston (Columbus Africentric Early College/Columbus, Ohio)
On the game:
We all played well. We played together, we played strong and we had a lot of energy. We knew it was going to be hard, because we were playing Argentina in front of their home crowd. We knew it was going to be rowdy. We knew we had to stay together and stay focused.

What does it mean to reach the gold medal game?
We are all psyched about it. We are really excited. But, we know that we have one goal, and we can’t lose focus now. We have to bring the same energy, and we have to build off of that.

Diamond Miller (Franklin H.S./Somerset, N.J.)
On the game:
One through 12, we played really, really great. We have confidence going into the gold medal game. We are just really excited.

We played them in a scrimmage and won, and I think we can do it again. We just need to stay focused.

Celeste Taylor (Long Island Lutheran H.S./Valley Stream, N.Y.)
On the second half:
We settled down the crowd a lot. I think that gave us even more momentum to keep going, and keep pushing and keep fighting, even though we were up.

On reaching the gold medal game:
It’s fantastic. I knew we could do it, but just to be here and actually be in the game, it’s a whole different feeling. We just want to win it.
