After the completion of preliminary round play at the 2018 USA Basketball Men’s 3x3 National Championship that is taking place this weekend at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, just one team, Ariel Slow & Steady (5-0), remains undefeated, however, all 12 teams will have a chance to compete in the title game.

All games at the 2018 USA Basketball 3x3 National Championships are free and open to the public.

The national championship games for men and women will be streamed live on usab.com beginning at 2:50 p.m. (all times listed are EDT).

While the top two finishing teams from each preliminary round group advanced directly to the quarterfinals, including Ariel Slow & Steady, Ariel Turtles (4-1), 3BALL Minnesota (3-2) and 3BALL Olympic Club (3-2), the third through sixth-place teams in each group will compete in quarterfinal play-in games.

At 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 22, Harlem (3-2) will face Shelton’s Soldiers (1-4) and WAC (3-2) will take on Savage Deaf Fellas (0-5); while at 11:40 a.m. Underdogs (3-2) will face Infinite Hoops Nation (2-3) and Roots Academy (3-2) plays ATG (0-5). The winners of those games will advance to meet either a first or second seed in the quarterfinals at 12:20 and 12:40 p.m.

“We are at elevation and the game is very, very fast-paced, so you have to be in shape,” said WAC’s Hans Gasser (Washington/Seattle, Wash.). “There is no jogging on defense.

“We have to figure out what works, strategy-wise. So, we will refine that and come back ready tomorrow.”

All of the teams are staying at the USOTC, where meals are included and athletes from any Olympic discipline might be training.

“Playing five games in one day takes a lot out of you, but the competition has been great, a lot of good players here,” said Roots Academy’s Ryan McDade (Northern Arizona/Enumclaw, Wash.). “It is a great chance to come out and compete.

“Every team here is good. We could get beat by anybody, so we just want to come mentally prepared.”

The winning team at the USA Basketball 3x3 Men’s National Championship will earn a spot in the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Mexico City Masters event, held Sept. 8-9.

Games are played under FIBA 3x3 rules and feature a 10-minute clock and 12-second shot clock. Other rules of note include: free throws and buckets inside the arc are worth one point and shots from beyond the arc are worth two points; the first team to 21 points or whichever team is ahead at the end of regulation play is the winner; and if the game ends in a tie, the first team to score two points in overtime wins.
