Speaker Lineup Announced for USA Basketball Washington DC Coach Academy

The lineup of speakers for the USA Basketball Washington, D.C., Coach Academy – presented by Nike – today was announced and the Aug. 11-12 event at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., will feature high school coaches and administrators, NCAA mentors and gold medal winning USA Basketball coaches. 

Registration for the USA Basketball Washington, D.C., Coach Academy is available online.

USA Basketball coach academies provide valuable insight and education to coaches and administrators of basketball. Expected to present at the academy are:

  • Monique Boykins, girls basketball head coach at Lower Merion High School (Pa.)
  • Raphael Chillious, collegiate men’s basketball coach
  • Kevin Eastman, former NBA assistant coach and director of operations
  • Herman Harried, boys basketball head coach at Lake Clifton High School (Md.) and a five-time USA Basketball coach
  • Joe Mantegna, boys basketball head coach at Blair Academy (N.J.)
  • Anne Renninger, girls basketball head coach at Sidwell Friends School
  • Don Showalter, USA Basketball coach director, youth division and a nine-time gold medal winning coach of USA men’s U16 and U17 national teams since 2009
  • Mark Slessinger, men’s basketball head coach at the University of New Orleans
  • Kevin Sutton, collegiate coach and a victorious USA Basketball head coach at the 2011 USA Nike Hoop Summit and a gold-medal winning USA assistant coach for the 2009 U16 and 2010 U17 national teams

Academy sessions impart to coaches of all levels the USA Basketball curriculum for a proper skill development path to teach basketball to children of all ages and ability levels. Guest speakers deliver on- and off-court sessions on basketball and leadership topics.

Registration for this two-day coach academy is $185 and includes on- and off-court presentations, Nike/USA Basketball gift items, catered meals, a USA Basketball memorabilia viewing, networking time and training for a USA Basketball 2017-18 coach license. Additional speakers are expected to be added to the schedule.

USA Basketball gold-licensed coaches are eligible for discounted registration, and offers are available for groups of 10 or more. Additionally, the first 50 registrants will receive an advanced registration discount of 25 percent off.

A preferred rate of $144.00/night plus tax is available at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. Reservations may be made online through the USA Basketball Mayflower Hotel Room Block Website. Reservations also are available by calling Marriott Reservations at 1(877) 212-5752 and mentioning the USA Basketball Room Block at The Mayflower Hotel. All reservations must be made by July 12, 2018, or while availability remains to guarantee preferred rate.
