Speaker Lineup Announced for USA Basketball Houston Coach Academy

The lineup of speakers for the USA Basketball Houston Coach Academy – presented by Nike – today was announced and the Sept. 29-30 event at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory will feature high school coaches, NCAA mentors and administrators, NBA personnel and a gold-medal winning USA Basketball coach.

Registration for the USA Basketball Houston Coach Academy is available online.

USA Basketball coach academies provide valuable insight and education to coaches and administrators of basketball. Expected to present at the academy are:

  • Trey Austin, Westbury Christian School boys basketball head coach
  • Dave Bollwinkel, Chicago Bulls player personnel scout
  • Jim Boone, Delta State University men’s basketball head coach
  • Larry Brown, Texas Tech University men’s basketball special assistant
  • Jeff Culver, University of Colorado, Colorado Springs men’s basketball head coach
  • Terry Layton, Basketball Connections president and head coach
  • Tates Locke, former NBA and collegiate coach
  • Dave Severns, Los Angeles Clippers pro personnel scout
  • Don Showalter, coach director, youth division at USA Basketball and a nine-time gold medalist USA Basketball head coach at the helm of the USA U16 and U17 national teams since 2009
  • Lisa Stone, Saint Louis University women’s basketball head coach
  • Scott Thompson, Legend Leadership Group CEO and president and a 1986 USA Basketball World Championship assistant coach

Academy sessions impart to coaches of all levels the USA Basketball curriculum for a proper skill development path to teach basketball to children of all ages and ability levels. Guest speakers deliver on- and off-court sessions on basketball and leadership topics. More speakers are expected to be added to the schedule.

Registration is $185 and includes on- and off-court presentations, Nike/USA Basketball gift items, catered meals, a USA Basketball memorabilia viewing and networking time.

USA Basketball gold-licensed coaches are eligible for discounted registration, and offers are available for groups of 10 or more. Additionally, the first 50 registrants will receive an advanced registration discount of 25 percent off.

A preferred hotel room rate is available at the Houston Marriott Westchase. Individual attendee reservations may be made online through the USA Basketball Houston Marriott Westchase Room Block Website. All reservations must be made by Sept. 17, 2018 or while availability remains to guarantee preferred rate.
