Inaugural USA Basketball Youth Development Summit To Take Place July 25 in Las Vegas

USA Basketball will host its inaugural USA Basketball Youth Development Summit from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, July 25 at SLS Hotel in Las Vegas.

The USA Basketball Youth Development Summit is designed for coaches and administrators involved in youth basketball. Registration for the event, which was free, has closed.

“USA Basketball is excited to initiate and host our inaugural Youth Development Summit,” said Jay Demings, USA Basketball Youth Division director. “With so many youth coaches and administrators in Las Vegas during this time, we wanted to create an open discussion and take advantage of the opportunity to hear from and to help educate youth coaches and to share best practices.”

The USA Basketball Youth Development Summit will begin with an opening address by Jim Tooley, USA Basketball Chief Executive Officer, which will be followed by an address on the state of youth basketball in the United States from Demings.

Next on the schedule will be a discussion on the future of basketball that will feature: Geno Auriemma, head coach of the 2009-2016 USA Basketball Women’s National Team and at University of Connecticut; George Raveling, a four time USA Basketball head coach and Nike Global Basketball sports marketing director; and Myles Turner, a member of the USA Basketball Men’s National Team and the Indiana Pacers.

A town-hall forum will allow small-group discussion with attendees, before the keynote speaker, retired Gen. Martin Dempsey, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and current USA Basketball Chairman of the Board, will conclude the programming.

Several additional USA Basketball events will be taking place in Las Vegas from July 25-27, including the USA Basketball Men’s National Team minicamp and the USA Basketball Las Vegas Coach Academy.
