USA head coach Jeff Walz (Louisville)
On the game:
It was great to be able to get out there and compete. The players were excited. We were running around at times, playing hard, but not real smart at all times, but their effort was great. So, if we can continue to clean some things up, both offensively and defensively and play with that type of intensity, good things can happen.

On the team’s chemistry:
We had 22 assists on 36 made field goals, so it shows that we pass the ball and we were looking for each other. It was fun, and I Iiked seeing when someone was on the floor, their teammates ran over and picked them up. They are definitely starting to come together as one unit.

Aijha Blackwell (Whitfield School/Berkeley, Mo.)
On the game:
As a team we played hard. We kept each other motivated, and we kept pushing. I don’t think we gave up on any plays. We just played really hard throughout the entire game.

How did it feel to play in your first FIBA game?
Before the game, I was very emotional. I mean, I prayed and prayed to be on this team, and I prayed to play in a FIBA tournament, and it’s actually happening. So, my first game, I just went out there and gave it all I had – left it all on the court.

Jenna Brown (Stanford/Smyrna, Ga.)
On the game:
I thought our team did a much better job of executing down the stretch. We had a little bit of a sloppy start, but we definitely picked it up in the second half and came together.

On the team’s chemistry:
I think our chemistry is definitely getting there. We haven’t played a ton of games together yet; we’ve only been together for about two weeks, but it was feeling good, especially in the second half.

NaLyssa Smith (Baylor/Converse, Texas)
On the game:
We all executed. We just have to cut back on the turnovers and make sure we are putting the ball in the basket more.

What are your thoughts on the team’s chemistry in its first game?
I think we played great together. We gel well as a team, and there is just more to come.
How did it feel to play in your first FIBA game?
It was fun. I went out there a little bit nervous, I’m not going to lie, but once I got my first bucket, it just started to get easier.
