Originally known as the FIBA Junior World Championship, the tournament was held every four years starting in 1985. FIBA in 2005 changed its calendar and now conducts the U19 World Cup every other year. |
ELIGIBILITY: |
Athletes eligible for this team must be 19 years old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 2000) and U.S. citizens. |
2019 QUALIFIED TEAMS (16): |
Thailand earned an automatic berth to the tournament as the host country. The remaining 15 nations were determined by the five FIBA zone qualifiers in 2018. In addition to the host nation, countries competing in the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup include Mali (gold medalist) and Mozambique (silver medalist) from FIBA Africa; USA (gold medalist), Canada (silver medalist), Argentina (bronze medalist) and Colombia (fourth place) from FIBA Americas; China (gold medalist), Japan (silver medalist), Australia (bronze medalist) and South Korea (fourth place) from FIBA Asia; and Germany (gold medalist), Spain (silver medalist), Hungary (bronze medalist), Latvia (fourth place) and Belgium (fifth place) from FIBA Europe. |

USA women's teams are 79-13 in U19/Junior World Cups, capturing a sixth-consecutive gold in 2015 with a 7-0 record. In 2017, USA Basketball fell four points short against Russia in the gold medal game in an attempt to capture a seventh-straight gold medal. |
