FIBA conducted the draw to determine the preliminary round pools for the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Cup for Men, and the USA was placed into Group A along with host Netherlands, defending 3x3 World Cup Champion Serbia, South Korea and Turkey.

The sixth FIBA 3x3 World Cup, an event launched in 2012 and originally scheduled to be held every other year, is now an annual competition and will feature 20 men’s teams and 20 women’s teams in 2019. The USA did not qualify a team into this year’s women’s 3x3 tournament.

The 2019 edition of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup, which also features individual skills contests, will take place June 18-23 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The USA men 3x3 teams have compiled a 16-9 overall record in four 3x3 World Cups and claimed the silver medal, its first podium finish, at the 2016 3x3 Worlds.

Group B includes Estonia, Mongolia, Russia, Ukraine and the top team out of the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Cup Qualifier, which will be held May 4-5 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Along with host Puerto Rico, competing in the qualifying tournament will be: Australia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Nigeria and Romania.

Group C features China, Lithuania, Qatar, Slovenia and the silver medalist from the 3x3 qualifier; while Group D includes Brazil, Japan, Latvia, Poland and the 3x3 World Cup qualifier bronze medalist.

Following the preliminary round teams will be seeded, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout phase, with the winners of each subsequent game advancing through to the medal round.

In order to be eligible to be selected to the USA team, athletes must participate in the 2019 USA Basketball 3x3 National Championship that is scheduled to be held this spring (dates and site TBA). To receive an invitation to participate in the 2019 USA Basketball 3x3 National Championship, teams must qualify through a USA Basketball 3x3 National Qualifier or receive a direct invitation from USA Basketball.

Athletes eligible for this team must    be U.S. citizens.

The four members of the 2019 USA Men’s 3x3 World Cup Team will be selected following the conclusion of the 2019 USA Basketball Men’s 3x3 National Championship by the USA Basketball 3x3 Selection Committee.
