USA Basketball to Operate Nine Youth Development Camps in 2019

  • Date:
    Mar 7, 2019

USA Basketball today announced it will operate nine youth development camps in 2019, including locations in four U.S. cities. In addition to seven USA Basketball Regional Camps, which are open to athletes of all skill levels in either high school or middle school, new in 2019 will be boys and girls USA Basketball Gold Camps that focus on middle school athletes at an advanced level.

All USA Basketball camps utilize the USA Basketball Player Development Model which consists of four levels of development: Introductory, Foundational, Advanced and Performance.

“In addition to reaching young basketball players with our core values of fun, safety and development, we are excited this year to debut USA Basketball Gold Camps with the intention of providing an opportunity for those players who are looking for more instruction and competition,” said Jay Demings, USA Basketball Youth & Sport Development director. “All of the USA Basketball camps will be led by USA Basketball licensed coaches, which is important regardless of the skill level. We want all of our participants to learn to love basketball, no matter what level they compete at.”

A USA Basketball Gold Camp for boys is set for May 18-19 in Richmond, Virginia; and a USA Basketball Gold Camp for girls will take place June 23-24 in Atlanta.

Gold Camps specifically are designed for seventh and eighth grade athletes that demonstrate skills in line with the advanced or performance level of the USA Basketball Player Development Model. USA Basketball representatives will attend camps to evaluate the development level of all participants. USA Basketball Gold Camps will emphasize basketball fundamentals and progressive development through station work, group drills and competition.

Athletes interested in registering for a USA Basketball Gold Camp must submit an application for approval. To be eligible for USA Basketball Gold Camps, athletes must be in the seventh or eighth grade and cannot turn 16 years old prior to Sept. 1, 2019. More information on eligibility and the application process is available online.

Participants are responsible for transportation to and from the gym, lodging and basketball shoes, and each participating athlete will be provided with a jersey and shorts.

USA Basketball Regional Camps are open to middle school or high school players of all levels and abilities and emphasize fundamental skill development. Regional camps provide opportunities for children to improve their individual basketball skills while learning from USA Basketball licensed coaches. Camps include on-court skills training in a fun and developmentally appropriate learning environment. Dates and locations for 2019 USA Basketball Regional Camps can be found online.

In Los Angeles, three camps will take place on June 15-16, including a co-ed USA Basketball Middle School Regional Camp, a USA Basketball Boys High School Regional Camp and a USA Basketball Girls High School Regional Camp.

In Atlanta, a USA Basketball High School Girls Regional Camp will take place June 21-22, and a USA Basketball Middle School Boys Camp is set for June 23-24.

And in New York, a USA Basketball High School Girls Camp will take place Sept. 14-15, and a USA Basketball High School Boys Regional Camp will be conducted Sept. 14-15.

USA Basketball Regional Camp participants are responsible for transportation to and from the gym, lodging, all meals, clothing and basketball shoes, and each participating athlete will be provided with a USA Basketball jersey. Athletes will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
