FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments / June 23-28, 2020

Thel 24 teams that will compete in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments for Men were confirmed following the conclusion of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 and the release of the updated FIBA World Ranking, presented by NIKE.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 produced seven directly qualified teams for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Japan received automatic qualification as the hosts of the event.

The four remaining places in the 12-team Tokyo 2020 Olympic field are reserved for the winners of each of the four FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, set to take place on June 23-28, 2020.

The FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will include the 16 best-placed non-qualified teams from the FIBA Basketball World Cup and two highest-ranked countries per region in the FIBA World Ranking, presented by NIKE.

The ranking was updated to include the latest results from the World Cup.

Those teams are: Angola and Senegal (Africa), Mexico and Uruguay (Americas), China and Korea (Asia-Oceania), and Croatia and Slovenia (Europe).

Sue Phillips has been at the helm of some celebrated teams in her tenure with USA Basketball, but the 2013 Women’s U16 Junior National Team that won the FIBA Americas U16 Championship ranks among the best. This year marks the 10-year anniversary of that championship tournament run, that team and gold medal was Phillips’s first of many with USA Basketball.

Players will participate in a USA Basketball Junior National Team minicamp from March 31-April 2 in conjunction with the 2023 NCAA Women's Final Four.

The international portion of the USA Basketball Showcase begins with matchups against Slovenia (Aug. 12) and Spain (Aug. 13) in Malaga, Spain. Then, on Aug. 18 and Aug. 20, the program is slated to host exhibitions against both Greece and Germany, respectively, in Abu Dhabi in the days prior to the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup.

USA Basketball announced the U.S. Men’s National Team will play two games in Malaga, Spain, as part of the USA Basketball Showcase in preparation for the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup.
