Askew, a member of the 2019 USA 3x3 U19 World Cup Team that captured the gold medal is the lone participant with prior international experience with USA Basketball.
Baldwin Jr., Brown, Chandler, Holmgren, Sallis and Watson were named to the 2021 USA Nike Hoop Summit Team, but the competition was not held due to COVID-19.
Miles was a member of the 2020 USA Hoop Summit Team that also did not compete due to the pandemic, and Miller was a finalist for the 2017 USA U17 World Cup Team. Additionally, Askew, Baldwin Jr., Brown, Chandler, Furst, Holmgren, Ingram, Ivey, Love, Miller, Sallis and Terry previously participated in at last one USA Basketball Junior National Team minicamp.
“It’s exciting,” said Dixon. “It didn’t hit home until the other day when they sent us the USA Basketball gear and the other stuff we’d be wearing. When you’re getting that out of the box and getting it washed, you realize those are your shirts, and I think it really resonates that you’re representing your country.”
Dixon hopes to bring this 2021 group to a gold medal in the same way he did back in 2009 as head coach of the U19 World Cup Team.
“It was very exciting. I had a great experience last time and made great friendships and relationships with players and coaches and USA Basketball,” said Dixon.
