Quotes: U.S. Olympic 3x3 Team July 25
• Recap
Stefanie Dolson (Chicago Sky/Connecticut/Port Jervis, N.Y.)
What has this been like for you, this whole experience?
Cool. You know, being here has been a dream of mine for a while, so to finally be here, even though the protocols and everything makes a little different, it's still special to be able to compete for a gold.
How do you feel after three games?
We feel good. You know, having Jackie come late, these are our first games that we've ever played with her. So, we're just trying to get better with every game, build our chemistry – offensively, defensively. But, we're pretty happy with how we played. We'll just try to keep getting better.
Allisha Gray (Dallas Wings/South Carolina/Sandersville, Ga.)
What did it take to come back from that deficit against Russia?
I would say our mentality throughout the game. We stayed positive, kept a strong mining, and we were able to battle it out and win the game.
What will you take from that win over Russia?
It's great that we played a team like Russia early and had a type of game now, rather than not having it until the semifinals or in the gold medal game. So, I think that was a good test for us. It tested our mentality, and we were strong and pulled it out.
Kelsey Plum (Las Vegas Aces/Washington/Poway, Calif.)
What did it take to fight through that game against Russia?
I think we expected that, that they were going to play super physical and the fouls were going to be pretty high, but I thought we played through it for the most part. They're a really good team, and they've been playing together as you can see. They make a lot of really good reads. So, I'm just proud of the way we battled. We could have gotten down on ourselves when we got down early, but we didn't, and we got the win.
Jackie Young (Las Vegas Aces/Notre Dame/Princeton, Ind.)
Are you feeling more comfortable out there?
Yeah. I think each game I play, I'm just getting a little bit more comfortable. Like everybody knows, I haven't played with this group. They had chemistry together and adding me in kind of throws things off a little bit, so we're just still trying to build that chemistry.
The USA and Romania were even for the first few minutes, and then it was a 9-2 run. What do you think made the difference?
I think we just started to execute better. We got locked in after a little bit. I think in the beginning, we weren't executing as well as we should have been.
