Speakers Announced for USA Basketball Dallas Coach Academy

Basketball coaches in the Dallas area will have the opportunity to sign up for a full day of professional development at the USA Basketball Coach Academy that will take place on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, Texas.

The 2021 USA Basketball Dallas Coach Academy will be a one-day session and will cost $25. Registration is available online and includes a USA Basketball t-shirt, coaching notebook and a boxed lunch. Check-in will be 8:30-9 a.m. EDT on Sept. 25, with sessions concluding at 5 p.m. that day.

Launched in 2015, USA Basketball Coach Academies provide valuable insight and education to basketball coaches and administrators. Academy sessions impart the USA Basketball curriculum for a proper skill development path to teach the game to children of all ages and ability levels.

Set to speak at the USA Basketball Boston Coach Academy are:

  • Tommy Brakel, North Crowley High School, boys basketball head coach
  • Jamie Dixon, TCU, men’s basketball head coach & two-time USA U19 gold medalist coach
  • Mark Morefield, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, women’s basketball head coach
  • Mike Neighbors, University of Arkansas, women’s basketball head coach
  • Abi Olajuwon, TCU, women’s basketball assistant coach
  • David Peavy, Duncanville High School, boys basketball head coach
  • Don Showalter, USA Basketball, director of coach development
  • Greg White, Bentonville West High School, boys basketball head coach
  • Andy Zihlman, Bishop Lynch High School, girls basketball head coach

Guest speakers will focus on their areas of expertise to present on basketball and leadership topics that apply on and off the court. Attendees will have networking opportunities to meet with one another, as well as with speakers. Participants will be required to wear masks and will be physically distanced.

Sessions at USA Basketball Coach Academies feature a variety of teaching styles, including player demonstrations, lectures, panel discussions, on court basketball instruction, off court coaching techniques and life skills training.

Attendees must be at least 18 years old to register.

The USA Basketball Foundation announced a Torch Leadership Program to empower students at minority-serving institutions in sport through one-on-one mentoring and other opportunities with USA Basketball executive staff.

USA Basketball today announced 31 athletes expected to participate at the 2022 USA Basketball WU18 National Team trials at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center. Trials begin May 31 with the 12-member team expected to be announced June 3 with competition at the 2022 FIBA U18 Women’s Americas Championship in Buenos Aires from June 13-19.

USA Basketball today announced 40 athletes expected to participate at the 2022 WU17 National Team trials. Trials start May 26 with the 12-member team expected to be announced June 1. The team will compete at the 2022 FIBA Women’s U17 World Cup July 9-17 in Debrecen, Hungary.
