With the USA Men’s and Women’s 3x3 AmeriCup Teams set to begin training camp on Nov. 8 in Miami Lakes, Florida, in preparation for the inaugural FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup that will be played Nov. 12-14 at Bayfront Park in Miami, Blake Dietrick (Princeton/Wellesley, Mass.) today was named to the USA women’s roster for the event.
“It means so much to be able to represent my country on home soil, especially in the inaugural FIBA Americas 3x3 event,” said Dietrick, who represented USA Basketball at the Constanta Stop of the 2021 FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series. “This team is an incredible group of basketball players and people, and I cannot wait to see what we can do on the court.
“My expectations for training camp are to be a sponge and learn as much as I can about each of my teammates, so that when we get on the court, we can make each other better and bring home a win for the USA.”
Dietrick joins Cierra Burdick (Seattle Storm/Tennessee/Charlotte, N.C.), Haley Gorecki (Duke/Palatine, Ill.) and Brionna Jones (Connecticut Sun/Maryland/Havre de Grace, Md.).
Kelsey Mitchell (Indiana Fever/Ohio State/Cincinnati, OH), who previously was named to the team, is unable to compete due to injury.
The USA women will play in Group B, opening against Venezuela at 1:50 p.m. (all times listed are EST) on Nov. 13, followed by Argentina at 5:40 p.m. The complete schedule is available online.
The USA 3x3 AmeriCup Men’s Team was announced on Oct. 21 and includes Trey Bardsley (Nebraska Wesleyan/Beatrice, Neb.), Canyon Barry (Iowa Wolves/Florida/Colorado Springs, Colo.), Charlie Brown Jr. (Delaware Blue Coats/Saint Joseph’s/Philadelphia, Pa.) and Kareem Maddox (Princeton/Los Angeles, Calif.).
Joe Lewandowski (Point Park University), who has been coaching/advising USA Basketball 3x3 national teams since 2014, will serve as head coach for both teams.
The USA men will play their first two preliminary round game on Nov. 12 – against Mexico at 2:35 p.m. (all times listed are EST) followed by Venezuela at 6:25 p.m. The complete schedule is available online.
“I'm excited to get this group together and start working,” said Barry, who won a gold medal with Maddox at the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Cup. “I know most of the guys from the 3x3 circuit, and Charlie Brown was actually on my G League team last year, so I feel like I have a good relationship with everyone. I'm excited to see how we fit together on the 3x3 court.
“Miami's a great city,” added Barry, who played for the University of Florida as a graduate transfer in 2016-17. “It's warm, and it's in Florida where I live, so I'm excited to spend a couple of weeks down there.”
For both the men’s and women’s tournament, the quarterfinals, semifinals, bronze medal game and gold medal game will be played on Nov. 14.
The gold medalist women’s and men’s teams will earn a qualifying berth into the 2022 FIBA 3x3 World Cup.
