Speakers Announced for Nov. 6 USA Basketball Minneapolis Coach Academy
Basketball coaches in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area will have the opportunity to sign up for a full day of professional development at the USA Basketball Coach Academy that will take place on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Cretin-Derham High School in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The 2021 USA Basketball Minneapolis Coach Academy will be a one-day session and will cost $25. Registration is available online and includes a USA Basketball t-shirt, coaching notebook and a boxed lunch. Check-in will be 8:30-9 a.m. EDT on Nov. 6, with sessions concluding at 5 p.m. that day.
Launched in 2015, USA Basketball Coach Academies provide valuable insight and education to basketball coaches and administrators. Academy sessions impart the USA Basketball curriculum for a proper skill development path to teach the game to children of all ages and ability levels.
Set to speak at the USA Basketball Minneapolis Coach Academy are:
- Crystal Flint, Cretin-Derham High School girls basketball head coach
- Tony Irons, Vashon High School boys basketball head coach
- Jordan Montgomery, motivational speaker
- Don Showalter, USA Basketball director of coach development and 10-time gold medalist USA U16/17 national team coach
- Ruth Sinn, University of St. Thomas women’s basketball head coach and 2019 gold medalist USA U16 assistant coach
- John Tauer, University of St. Thomas men’s basketball head coach
- Carly Thibault-DuDonis, University of Minnesota women’s basketball associate head coach
- Dave Thorson, University of Minnesota men’s basketball assistant coach
- Ras Vanderloo, Sioux City East High School boys basketball head coach
Each speaker will focus on their areas of expertise to present on basketball and leadership topics that apply on and off the court.
Attendees will have networking opportunities to meet with one another, as well as with speakers. Participants will be required to wear masks and will be physically distanced.
Sessions at USA Basketball Coach Academies feature a variety of teaching styles, including player demonstrations, lectures, panel discussions, on court basketball instruction, off court coaching techniques and life skills training.
Attendees must be at least 18 years old to register.
