    Jan 11, 2022

- 2022 National Youth Basketball Tournament Set for July 13-17 in Indiana -

The USA Basketball U.S. Open Basketball Championships will return in 2022 with five divisions for boys and girls youth basketball teams from July 13-17, 2022, at the Finch Creek Fieldhouse in Noblesville, Indiana, and the Pacers Athletic Center at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.

Online registration is open for all divisions, and more information is available at the details page. Teams may compete in divisions for 12U, 13U or for 8th, 9th or 10th grades. Team registrations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis as capacity permits for each division. The cost is $400 per team prior to Feb. 7. As of Feb. 8, registration will cost $550.

“USA Basketball is excited to have the U.S. Open Basketball Championships return in 2022,” said Jay Demings, USA Basketball Youth & Sport Development director. “This event allows USA Basketball to reach thousands of players and hundreds of coaches, which is so important to our mission to grow basketball in the United States. The tournament is fun and competitive, and so important in terms of sharing our guidelines for youth basketball.”

Each team will be guaranteed four games and will be provided with USA Basketball/Nike apparel for players and coaches, as well as have an opportunity to take part in tournament add-ons, such as contests, team cookouts and a clinic for coaches.

The U.S. Open Basketball Championships require all team coaches and bench personnel to possess a valid USA Basketball Coach License, which includes background screening, U.S. Center for SafeSport education, coach education and training tools. Either a Gold or Associate coach license is acceptable.

The championships incorporate youth basketball guidelines established by joint working groups developed by USA Basketball and the NBA, which can be found at usab.com/youthguidelines, and the tournament helps bring structure, authenticity, standards and quality to the club team environment in a fun, competitive and safe setting.

At the 2019 U.S. Open Basketball Championships, which featured four divisions, 120 teams took part, including more than 1,200 athletes and 200 coaches. The participants represented 28 states and Canada.

USA Basketball launched its national youth tournament in 2017 as the USA Basketball National Championships, which featured divisions for 14U teams, before changing the name in 2018 to the U.S. Open Basketball Championships and growing to include three divisions for each gender. The tournament was cancelled in 2020 and not scheduled in 2021 due to the pandemic. See the complete history of winning teams at the U.S. Open Basketball Championships history page.
