Thirty-Four Athletes Invited to USA Basketball Men’s U17 National Team Training Camp
USA Basketball today announced 34 athletes expected to participate in the 2022 USA Basketball Men’s U17 National Team training camp June 18-25 in Colorado Springs.
The final 12-player roster will be named prior to the team traveling to Europe to compete July 2-10 at the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup in Málaga, Spain.
Training camp participants and coaches were selected by the USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team Committee. Athletes represent the high school graduating classes of 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The class of 2023 will be represented by Garwey Dual, Dennis Evans III, Jeremy Fears Jr., Ron Holland, Jalen Lewis, Justin McBride, Arrinten Page, Jaylin Stewart, Sean Stewart, DaJuan Wagner Jr., Brandon Williams and Wesley Yates III.
Expected to participate from the class of 2024 are Marcus Allen, Annor Boateng, James Brown, David Castillo, Naasir Cunningham, Isaiah Elohim, Johnuel "Boogie" Fland, Ian Jackson, Morez Johnson Jr., Richard "Tre" Johnson, Karter Knox, Tyler McKinley, Liam McNeeley, Asa Newell, Tahaad Pettiford, Jamari Phillips, Zion Sensley and Bryson Tucker.
From the class of 2025 are Cooper Flagg, Jeremiah Green, Koa Peat and Bryson Tiller.
Several invitees are 2021 FIBA U16 Americas Championship champions, Fears Jr., Holland, Lewis, McBride, Castillo, Jackson, McNeeley and Tucker. Evans III, Jaylin Stewart and Cunningham were 2021 U16 National Team finalists, while Brown, Elohim, Fland, Tre Johnson and Yates III attended the 2021 U16 training camp.
Additionally, Allen, Knox, Flagg, Green, Page, Peat, Pettiford, Sean Stewart, Tiller and Wagner Jr. have attended previous Junior National Team minicamps.
Boateng, Dual, Morez Johnson Jr., McKinley, Newell, Phillips, Sensley and Williams enter their first USA Basketball camp.
In related news, USA Basketball veteran coaches Scott Fitch, Aaron Gray and Nick LoGalbo will be joined by Frank Bennett, who will serve his first USA Basketball assignment, as court coaches for the first several days of training camp, assisting with on-court drills and skills sessions.
Fitch, the head boys basketball coach at Fairport High School (N.Y.) will undertake his 12th coaching assignment after recently serving as an assistant coach for the 2022 USA Basketball Nike Hoop Summit Team.
Gray, who played seven NBA seasons, will undertake his sixth USA Basketball coaching assignment. Gray specializes in player development and previously coached in the NBA Development League.
LoGalbo, the athletic director and head boys basketball coach at Lane College Prep (Ill.) will serve in his seventh USA Basketball assignment.
Bennett is the head boys basketball coach at Chaminade College Prep (Mo.) and has coached NBA All-Stars and USA Basketball alumni in Jayson Tatum and Bradley Beal at Chaminade.
USA Basketball previously announced the U17 National Team coaching staff, which will be led by Sharman White.
The USA has won gold in each of the five FIBA U17 World Cups, dating back to the event’s inception 2010. The event has seen the U.S. compile a perfect 37-0 record.
